Help - light fixtures grounding

Hi,

I'm a new homeowner and have little experience in electrical wiring.

I installed a few light fixtures but I was wondering if I connected the ground correctly. I connected the light fixture ground wire to the existing ground wire in ceiling without connecting it to the electrical box or the metal bracket

Is this an issue?

Please give me some advice

Welcome to the forums.

The ground wire should connect to the box and the fixture. I usually attach the incoming ground directly to a ground screw in the back of the box and attach the fixture to the tail.

So the ground wire from the ceiling should be screwed to the box and the excess of it should then be connected to the light fixture ground?

What could happen if I leave it as is?

Very minor safety risk if a hot ever touched the box it could become live. But the light fixture being grounded and screwed to the box should ground it even though not totally code.
