Lamp socket repair question

I'm replacing the lamp socket in a turn-knob style socket. The socket came with a cardboard sleeve, but I want to use the original socket shell and the sleeve won't fit into the shell. Can I wrap electrical tape around the socket (covering the connections) instead of using the cardboard sleeve?

Thanks!
Brian

Welcome to the forums.

The replacement socket should be used as a complete assembly.
Black tape wrapped around the socket will melt.

Agree. Tape not an option.

Check a different store and perhaps find a better socket solution.
