Fix a hanging chandelier

So the chandelier we have somehow came loose and the locking sections are not able to come together. The cord it hangs on (normally hidden inside the locking sections) seems to be too long to push back up in order to get the locking bolts together. This is what it sort of looks like.. we just used zip ties to shorten the cord to raise it a bit, but that's only because we aren't sure how to properly lock the pieces up again.

Welcome to the forums.

You need to take the light down to fix it. You need two people. One to hold the fixture and another to disconnect the canopy. Remove the two nuts from the canopy and then disconnect the wires. It's much easier to repair the light down. There is also some wire stored up in the canopy.

Once down you should be able to see how to reconnect the threaded part of the fixture.

Once you have the fixture down you'll probably see that the sections just screw/thread back together. The extra cord will be pulled up to the top and hidden in the electrical box when you re-mount the light.
