Ceiling fan/light wiring help

So here's where I'm at. I have installed a new ceiling fan where an existing light was. There is one wall switch that controls the ceiling fan and light at the same time. I want to separate them and have either 2 switches for light and fan or do one that has those two in one. Either way, there is only 2 wires coming down into the current switch, because there was just a light there before. So my question is how do I go about getting the fan and light on separate switches when there isn't separate wires in the wall.

Welcome to the forums.

You would need to add an additional 2 wire cable from the fan to the switch.
Most times it's easier to just add a remote control.

Can be in place of the wall switch if the fan allows for that type of receiver.

Another option if there are only two wires in the switch is to have the fan hooked to unswitched power and use the chains and use the switch for only the light.
