LED backlit frameless mirror

Anyone on this forum that has made their own backlit mirror, using LED strips, hardwired to 110V?

Curious as to correct selection for:
1. what Lumens
2. LED strips used
3. Mounting ideas

Thanks!

I think we can have around 500 to 1000 lumens for the backlit mirror. Many strips lights are already come with the 3M adhesive tape at the back, so we can just stick it around the edge of the mirror.

With Christmas around the corner Theo's suggestion of string lites is a good one. Almost any store will have them.

I use tape LED lights for a variety of back lighting projects. How bright is up to you and what you want to accomplish. Luckily many lights are dimmable and you can even have color changing which even if you don't want the color to change it allows you to pick what color you want the back light to be.

Thanks, these are good ideas. How would you mount the mirror (24” x 36”) an inch or two away from the wall?

Depends on how the mirror is framed (or not). You can stick on some pads that are used as bumpers.

Hi, you are going to have to plan on switching them off, probably a switched outlet under the vanity , assuming this is in a bathroom, at any rate they are usually low voltage and have a power supply.

I was planning on doing away with the vanity fixtures above the mirror Then using the switched boxes, and cover them with mirror...

I would glue a wood box frame to the back of the mirror. The thickness would determine how far off the wall your mirror floats. The frame then would be the mounting location for your LED's. Then the whole thing can be hung with keyhole brackets.

Thank you!

Do you suggest “mirror glue” (or something else, to glue frame / box to mirror?

Yes, I would use a product intended for glueing mirrors. Also, depending on the size of your mirror you may need to attach a face to your support box so you have enough surface area for gluing.
