A little more info will be helpful. Fan brand. Picture of the location. Picture of the fan.
I suspect the housing was installed too high up into the ceiling. Or did you install another layer to the ceiling?

Unfortunately I've never seen longer spring clips. Not sure why, your issue isn't unique.

Maybe others will have better solutions.

Replacing fluorescent light ballast

I am replacing an old Magnetek 806-SLH-TC-P ballast for 2 T12 single pin type fluorescent bulbs. Am I correct about this? However, the wiring on the new ballast is slightly different from that on the old ballast and I'm not sure about the correct way to wire it. The old ballast has 1 red and 1 blue wire on one end and 1 white and 1 black wire on the other end. The new ballast is the same except for an extra blue wire (so it has 2 blue and 1 red wires on one end). What do I do with the extra blue wire? Thank you for any help with this. Ceiling light fixture in old house only has two wires (no ground)

Old house built in 1910. Trying to replace the ceiling fixture. Noticed the bundle in the ceiling only has two wires. a) not sure what to do with the ground wire in the new fixture. b) More importantly, I can touch either combination (fixture black to ceiling wire A and fixture white to ceiling wire B, OR, fixture black to ceiling wire B and fixture white to ceiling wire A) and either combination lights up the test bulb. does that mean I can cut off the ground wire in the new fixture box and connect either fixture wire to either ceiling wire?
