Question 2002 Mercury Boat Motor 225hp EFI has no power

Hello,

The boat motor starts easy and idles fine. The problem is it has no power. It will not get on plane and is unable to push the boat on to the trailer.

Have been working on it and still can't figure out the problem. Open to suggestions please. It was working fine and now it isn't.

Thanks,
Susan

Wiring harness and fuel flow would be the first things I would check. When you say you are working on it, what have you done so far?

Do your rpms go up but dont go anywhere?
May have spun the hub on the prop

The boat will move and go up to 10 mph tops.

Here is what has been done so far:
New plugs
New fuel pump
Injectors have been rebuilt
Fuel line replaced
fuel pickup cleaned and inspected
sensors all tested
has great compression and spark

Thanks

So if you continue to push the throttle do your rpms continue to go up?

Im still thinking the hub is spun. Even with a spun hub you can move slowly.

It is not the hub. Also, the problem started happening gradually over time (weeks) and not all of a sudden if that helps.

Just to add - the rpms will go up to 2,000 and that's all cause it is not producing enough horsepower.

Don't dismiss the wiring harness. A bad electrical connection could cause this issue, and it is something that could develop over time.
