yamaha kodiak 400 is creating dependency on alcohol

I have a 2005 kodiak quad that has kicked my butt this winter. A no spark issue led me to tear the machine down and do a thorough PM this winter. I replaced everything with regards to the electrical system. Rectifier, diode, coil, stator, pickup coil, battery, and starter solenoid. Still no spark. CDI right? Replaced it too. Funny thing is when I checked supply voltage to the coil from the CDI I read -27 volts with key on and the same while cranking. I can't imagine this is correct but how would the polarity get switched?
Anyone have any ideas?

I guess I should mention I checked all the switches and components per the service manual. I never found a smoking gun so I went with the replace it all approach. I have drank a lot of beers standing in the garage just looking at it, never even picking up a wrench.....
