Karcher 2000 psi gas pressure washer surging

i have a small karcher pressure washer. it has a tecumseh motor on it. its a g 2000 et model. So I replaced carb and new plug and filter on motor, that solved the motor not wanting to start or stay running.
Now while running great, you pull the trigger the pressure is great for a few seconds then drops off . If you continually hold the trigger, pressure will come and go, during this process the motor revs up and down at the same time. If you release the trigger and pull it again the pressure is there and last a few seconds then drops off.

The first thing I would check is your water supply. If there is a screen on the inlet to the pump make sure it is clean. Also make sure the water supply and hose are able to deliver enough water volume.

If you squeeze the trigger and the engine slows as well as the pressure fades then you could either have a governor issue or possibly the carb is running too lean.

I doubt it is an engine problem, sounds more like the pump or sub component of.

That sounds like a water supply problem. If you're using a loing hose, it may just be air in the hose, or a spot kinking. If not, you have a problem of not enough volume of water getting to the unit.

Before hooking up the hose to the wand [after hooking up the water supply] I always turn the water on and let it run thru hose/pump to insure that any air is flushed out. As mentioned above make sure any screens are clean. What diameter water hose are you using?

btw - welcome to the forums!

You may have damaged the intake gasket when you installed the new carb and you have an air leak, while it is surging spray/dribble some brake parts cleaner behind the carb andd along the intake, if the engine tempo changes you have an air leak. Have a good one. Geo

Have to agree.
I had a brand new 2500 PSI Karcher still in the box given to me to to pay for a job I'd done.
Total piece of poop.
I could not even get it to start, I took it to a dealer and they tried for days to get it running.
Once it did start the pressure it did the same thing, and no rhyme or reason to why it would start and stop.
Second time I used it the seals started melting, oil leaked out of the pump, hose was so stiff you had to unroll the whole thing to keep it from kinking.
I ended up giving it away and buying a better brand.
