2006 Yamaha G22a Golf cart smoking
I have a 2006 Yamaha g22a. It runs pretty well but excessive smoke is coming out the exhaust. Checked the spark plug and it was good, I removed some extra oil that was in the air filter pan. Also did a compression test that ended up at 140. Any ideas or solutions are appreciated.

it just recently started. I checked the oil and while it was at the full line I doubt the amount of smoke coming out would be from a "full oil". The oil does smell a little like gas

Something is going on if you've got smoking and had to remove excess oil from the air filter box. The smell of gas in the oil is a good clue.
First I would do an oil change and note exactly how much oil shows on the dipstick. Then see if the smoking stopped after the oil change. Then keep an eye on the oil level. If it rises you need to remove and check the float and needle valve in the carburetor. If the oil level doesn't rise and you get the smoking I'd open the air filter box and see if it's got a lot of oil in it again.

Thanks for that. Ill give it a try in the am and respond back. Its weird. took the kids on it tonight for about a 100 yard trip and no smoke on the front end and fogged out the neighborhood on the return trip.

If you do find that you're getting gas into the oil it is best to deal with it immediately. Caught early it's just a simple carburetor cleaning or minor repair. Keep running it and the gas dillutes the oil and you can end up with serious engine damage.

ive got the rear end jacked up but I cant locate the oil drain plug. The manual said its behind a plate and you put your wrench thru it but there is no plate. Embarassed to bring this up but I could use some help locating it. Driver side?

If it's there clean the oil out of the air filter box again and note the oil level on the dipstick. If there is already oil in the intake it may smoke for a short while. Drive the cart for 15-20 minutes and see if the smoking diminishes and check the oil level.

If the oil level remains unchanged then it's probably not a simple carburetor problem. It could be any of the usual things that causes a small engine to smoke like a broken piston ring or blown head gasket.
