Lawn Mower Running Weak

I have a 2013 toro 22" self propelled; personal pace recycler lawn mower that recently starts up a little rough and sounds like it might stall but eventually picks up. I cut the grass tonight but it isn't running as strong as it normally does. Looking for some trouble shooting tips for this machine. I am not a mechanic so basic stuff I can do. My intial plan is to change the air filter and spark plug, not sure if this is the way to start. Thanks for any input.

Paul

Make sure your gas is good and put some Sea Foam in it. You can get that stuff at auto parts stores, Walmarts, etc.

At least 95% of the time it's going to be a fuel issue.
The carb needs to come off and be rebuilt.
That new non ethanol gas is destroying fuel lines and and any rubber parts.
It sucks up moisture from the air, forms a sticky skum in the bowl.

I would check the owners manual and follow their recommended maintenance. Three things came to my mind in addition to the plug and air filter. Replace the gas line filter (if it has one), change engine oil and make sure transmission has lube.

The Model # for for the engine is 120000. Toro model is 20332. I only use Premium fuel in the motor since 2013, and drain it every winter with an oil change. Put a new spark in each year normally. It does say that the Fuel Filter should replaced annually I have never done this, so maybe this is the issue.

Changing the oil has nothing to do with the issue, air filter sure can effect how it runs.
It's a push mower, not likely to even have a filter or transmission oil.

If you haven't checked the air filter, this would be the time

To Joe Caption:
The owner states it is self propelled. The Toro catalog states the Model 20332 is self propelled. When did self propelled change to mean push? The mower has a transmission to propel the mower, therefore the transmission has lube oil. If you want to push a self propelled mower, be my guest.

Skip the premium fuel; waste of $ and may be doing more harm than good. Better option would be non-ethanol if you can find it. Around here the Marathon stations carry what they call "rec 90" non-ethanol.

By "push" mower, I'm sure means walk-behind vice rider.

It would be a good idea to check the air filters, only takes 5 minutes. If it look old and damaged it's time for a change. Cheap fix.
Other than this, refer to user manual.
Good luck.
