Murray 30” riding mower blade drive broken

I have a older 30” Murray small riding lawn mower that runs great. The shaft broke in 2 places that turns the blade at the pulley wheel and at the blade shaft underneath the mower. So the blade won’t turn anymore and the blade shaft is completely broken in 2 places

Is it worth it to try to repair this or will it be too costly?

Yes it is broken where the shaft meets the pully, it is also broken where the blade meets the deck underneath the bottom, cracked there too. is it worth fixing?

 

Not worth fixing but you can buy a new one & replace it. Just have to find the part number or just search for your mower parts & get a price. They're usually not that bad. Cheaper than another mower.

 

These Spindles (Quill Assemblies) are available on eBay for the most common Murray Ancestors and Descendants (AMF, Dynamark, TurfMaster, AYP, Murray, Noma, among others) . . . . I keep an old 1973 AMF running because the basic design had staying power and the parts were very very popular. These Quill Assemblies can be had for $25 to $35 apiece after shopping around.

If you post your Murray Model Number, either I or someone else may be able to locate the appropriate part. A 30" Deck sound like it was only one blade or two small 15" blades. Until recently, I would say they didn't make anything that small . . . . but I had a 30" Chain Driven Country Squire Rider sitting around here for awhile; so that proves that MTD (another family) saw fit to make such a size.

The Model and Serial Numbers are typically located in places that are NOT subject to any wear; like under/behind the seat on the Chassis.

Because it's so young, and Walmart is still selling a similar model, it may pay to go look at a new one and see where the Model Number is located . . . . or call the Manufacturer (which is now Briggs & Stratton.

Having the correct Model Number takes the guesswork out of the whole deal.

 

 

Murray made dozens of 30" Rear Engine Riding Mowers under its own name and that of others (Mills, Walmart, Western Auto, etc) in 2005 . . . . but here's one of them which may give you some help (if it's at all similar to yours, in identifying what exactly has broken:

You usually only want to purchase the pieces that are worn/broken (if possible). Partstree is a good place to get Part Numbers; then you can go shopping for the right thing where ever you can find it !
