Generator troubleshooting
We have a Honda Generator model EB3500X that the AC circuit breaker trips when the power cord is plugged in but has no load on it. What could this be? We tried a friends generator and it worked just fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does the generator breaker trip when nothing is plugged in?
Specifically which breaker on the generator is tripping?
Does the generator breaker trip when the cord only is plugged in?

It trips when the cord is plugged in but the switch on the box is turned off. The specific breaker is 120/240 volt 4 lug L14 plug end. And yes it trips when toe cord only is plugged in.

It's quite possible that your cord is bad.
You said "switch on the box". What box? What switch?

You had a friend bring over a generator and put it in YOUR generators location
with the same exact setup ? And it worked fine ?

What happens if you plug a different cord into it? It could be a problem inside the receptacle I suppose.
