John Deer 214 mower oil?
I have a 214 John deer mower that sat for over 10 years. I’ve gotten it to spark and I’m thinking I can get it running.
The manual says 30wt oil. Is it ok to use 10w 30 synthetic oil? I bought 30 wt non detergent oil but I’m wondering if I can use synthetic? Is there mower specific synthetic oil I can use?
I read somewhere about the valves being on top needing some sort of something in the oil.

The engine hadn’t run in about 10-12 years. It sat in an open shed for 8 years and then is sat for a few years in a closed in shed. The engine was rebuilt once years ago. It had been used to dig a small tank, plow fields, mow fields, level roads. It thought it’s life was over and then I came along and started fixing things. The wires were all chewed by rats. Hoses were all dry rotted. I rand a few new wires. Got a new carb, fuel pump, and fuel hoses. Put fuel in it and new oil and it started up!!! Smokes like crazy but seems to be good.
