B&S engine: possible timing issue
Good morning all
I have a question regarding a B&S 100228 88 horizontal crank engine. It's on a power raker and when I go to start it, once in a while it will pull the rope right back out of my hand the same way a sheared flywheel key would be. I pulled the flywheel and the key wasn't sheared , flywheel keyway nor the crank keyway is not damaged but I replaced the key anyway. Put it back together and it still does it occasionally. Any ideas what may be causing this issue?
Thank you in advance.

I'm not seeing anything for that engine number... re-check it and see if it's correct. Is it old enough to have points?

Sorry I just put the top row of numbers of what is stamped on the valve cover. the complete 2 rows of numbers are:
100228 88
122032 0536 B8
It's not that old and definitely has electronic ignition.

I see which engine it is now with those numbers. Adjust your valves. Other than that, there isn't much you can do. The valves can make a difference though.

Thank you for the info, I was thinking about the valves for how much they play a part in this. Is there a site that offers specs for briggs engines?
Best regards
