any ideas for replacement air filter?
Hey everyone,
I have an old weed eater (1991 Ariens LT210) that runs great, but the air filter element is missing. Unfortunately they don't make parts for this model anymore. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how I could make a replacement air filter? The pictures below show the weed eater intake with the plastic cover off and also the manual showing what the air filter element looked like (#2 in diagram).
I was thinking of maybe going to the Dollar store, buying a sponge, and cutting it using a scalpel to get as close a fit as possible. If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks.

You could take an old t-shirt, cut a piece out and wrap it over the entire filter base and use a zip tie behind it to hold it in place and oil the shirt. The oil will attract and catch the particles as the air passes. It's not perfect, but it works.

If you do a Google search for "foam filters" there's a lot of stuff that would work for that application. They have stock, high air flow material you can cut to fit.
I've used it a lot for dirt bikes.

I ended up making a template and cutting a foam sponge into a filter using a scalpel and scissors. Seems to be working fine
