Yard machine idling up and down

Any help is appreciated!

I have a yard machine push mower. Briggs and Stratton engine.

First the mower wouldn’t start. I replaced the fuel, cleaned the carburetor, air filter. Now the mower will start but idles up and down for a min or so then shuts off.

I have a video but don’t know how to attach it 😐

Hi Amy:

Sounds like a lean fuel mixture. The condition is called hunting.

Two most common causes for what you've described are loose carb mounting bolts, air leakage at gaskets, dirty carburetor.

Spray some WD40 around the carburetor while it's running to see if rpms change.
Add a little Sea Foam to the fuel. Double dose it until it clears up, then adjust the mixture of SF/gas per instructions on can.

Agreed, not enough fuel or too much air. For more detailed info, we need to know what you have.
