Painting over old basement paint?
Have a basement that the paint on the floor is showing some age. Can I just go over it with another coat and call it a day? Or do I need to etch it or sand it somehow to take. I would like to do a nice enamel this time. The first time was just a cheaper "basement paint". It is not flaking, is just starting to wear in some spots and has a very dull finish. Thanks!

My advice from experience is paint nothing on floors. It is a recipe to need repainting often because of abnormally high wear (vs walls or ceilings). If you still aren't convinced, any paint will stick better if sanded first but it is a factor of if the time invested is worth it and would depend on the quality of the existing paint and the covering paint. I would try sampling a small area for results, sanded beside unsanded spots.

Generally there isn't a lot of benefit from sanding painted concrete although scuffing any gloss is always a good idea. It is best to clean the existing paint and rinse off any cleaner residue!

Thanks for the information so far. I would like to use a product similar to the two part epoxy garage floor systems, I guess I am looking for that nice finished shine. I have used them in the past with great results in garages but have never painted over old paint just bare concrete, will I be ok using that product over old paint or should I use something else?
