Stain Exterior Fiberglass Door

We recently had a wood grained Fiberglass door installed. I took it Down & stained it as instructed with old masters gel stail. Unfortunately I am not happy with the results. Even after trying to touch up streaks the finish still look streaky & blotchy in places. I have not clear coated yet & was thinking about taking the door down & trying again to see if I could obtain better results. Can I use paint thinner to clean stain off before trying again? Any suggestions for getting better results?

Mineral spirits [paint thinner] along with elbow grease should remove most/all of the stain. Posting a pic of the stained door might garner more advice - http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

That doesn't look too bad. Scrubbing it with a rag damp with paint thinner might be enough to straighten it out.

marksr - Thank you for your response. I think I'll give that a try. Going to wait for some nicer weather so I can take it down & give it a go. I'll let you know how it turns out.
