Get rid of old stains?

I've got some old quart sized stains in my basement that were there when I bought the house. How do I dispose of them?

Thanks

Call your local disposal or transfer station and ask them. Local means of disposing of such things varies. In my area, our local transfer station has one day a year where they accept such "hazardous materials" free of charge.

They might require you to add sand or kitty litter to the coatings before you dispose of it. If the stains are still usable places like habit for humanity might take them.

The landfill here tells you to pour those things (paints and stains) out on something like a piece of carpet, so the liquids can dry... then you can throw the crusty carpet away "safely".

Latex or oil based makes a difference. Around here, latex products can be put in the garbage or poured down the drain. Not eco-friendly but the process with oil based products is to remove the lid until they dry out, then throw them in the garbage.
