I always have the problem that the lid is spilling paint everywhere when opened. Very dissatisfying!

You can use a center punch or nail to open 5 or 6 holes in the rim to allow excess paint drain back into the can. The lid will seal over the holes when you are through.

Great ideas! Thanks!
@marksr : Even with a flat surface, it drips a lot when I pour the paint or grab the paint lid.
Any issues you got with packaging yourselves? Let's share.

You just have to pay attention when you pour the paint. You always want a drop cloth [or paper. cardboard, etc] under the paint if you are pouring over anything that you need to keep errant paint off of. Wiping the edge of the can with a brush when you are done pouring will stop any paint from continuing to drip/run off of the can.
I've opened thousands of gallons of paint and have never had any issues with paint spilling when I remove the lid unless I wasn't paying attention to what I was doing.

You are a student in the Netherlands, so I figure the purpose of this post is homework. Paint cans are meticulously manufactured. I am friends with a guy who designs the equipment that makes all the bends and folds to perfect the seal. So there really is no "packaging" issues with a paint can. If you are having drips when you pour it, buy one of these. Shur-Line Paint Can Lid-1783844 - The Home Depot

Here are several different types of pour lids. I have had one like the first one for many years that I use.

IMO there is no need to fix what ain't broke
I started painting in the 60's and don't ever recall having any issues with 1 gallon cans, now some of the 5 gal buckets are harder to open than others.

If you're trying to conduct some sort of survey, which it sounds like, I have to warn you that surveys are not allowed on here and grounds for banning.
