Paint had silicone additive

Main floor bath-semi gloss finish, now want to change the wall color. Can we just scuff the walls, and then use something like Kilz as a primer? thanks!

Is the existing paint oil base or latex? What was this silicone additive?

Latex, and the additive was already in the paint, so we aren't sure about the actual additive. Paint has been on the walls about 15 years. Sorry don't have more info.

You shouldn't need to prime unless it will facilitate coverage of the new color. I'd lightly sand and apply 1-2 coats of latex enamel. While oil base Kilz is ok I would not use the latex version, it's a poor stain hiding primer and has been reported to have adhesion issues. IF you use a primer it would be better to use Zinnser's 123, latex cover stain primer or whatever primer is recommended on the bucket of new latex enamel.

Never heard of a "silicone" additive for paint.
Sure it was not something like M-1?
M-1 7.5 oz. Advanced Mildewcide-AM7.5 - The Home Depot
Or Floetrol?

I've long since forgotten the brand but I had a customer who spec'd a certain brand of oil base enamel that the manufacture claimed had silicone in it. It did produce and extra slick glossy coating.
