How to clean/save brushes if I have septic

Hi. I have septic at my house, so I can't just rinse brushes in the sink. It's also too cold right now to use the outside faucets.

Is there any way I can save brushes and re-use them from project to project?

Thank you.

What type of paint are you cleaning off and how much are you doing? If it's water based latex paint and you're just cleaning a brush now and then I would go ahead and use the sink. If you have more cleaning than you'd care to put down the drain I would clean them in a bucket and dump it outside. I would not clean oil based paints in the sink or put solvents down the drain.

I agree. I rarely clean brushes inside but if I do, flushing the sink/drain well with water will dilute the paint enough for it not to be a concern.
Wrapping a brush tightly with plastic will prevent the paint from drying. The cooler the area it's stored the longer it will keep that way. Obviously you don't want to let a brush with latex paint freeze.

Thanks for the input. It would just be the occasional water based paint. So maybe i'll go ahead and do it. Though some of the trim paint might be oil based (really smells) so I wouldn't rinse those...
