Laminate kitchen counter top?
I have my laminate kitchen counter top. It's too old so I am going to paint it looks like wood. Do I remove the laminate sheet, or Is it ok to keep it. I will paint over it. What do you suggest?

It will be very difficult/impossible to remove the laminate. That is a pre-formed counter available at most home centers. I would replace it with a new counter. If you don't want to replace the counter I would just leave it as is and not paint it. If you do wish to paint it I would look at a counter painting kit. A painted counter will scratch easily so you will have to be very careful with it once it's painted.

If that blemish in the picture is the only problem, you could rout out the area and install a decorative tile, or a piece of solid surface (Corian) or even a piece of real butcher block to serve as a hot pad or cutting board area.

Threads merged. Surfbug...one problem...one post.....do not ask multiple questions all over the site about the same issue. You already asked about replacing the laminate or painting last week!
