Semi-gloss paint.
Does Semi-gloss paint cause an echo? I have heard this rumor before on the job site.
I am repainting the whole house. I chose a semi gloss paint so that cleaning is easier.
I now notice an echo in the room first room I painted.
This room has been mostly empty for years, a few boxes and cat liter boxes, and I am not sure if it has always had an echo.
any comments?

Hard surfaces will echo although I doubt there is any discernible noise difference between a flat and semi-gloss. An empty room will always be louder than a furnished room! Furniture, rugs, curtains, etc. all break up the sound waves helping to quite the room.

I suppose anything is possible but I would have a hard time believing paint sheen would make an audible difference in a room.
That said, semi-gloss is pretty shiny to have on every wall but it's your house.

Semi gloss is so 80's today you want to use a satin/velvet finish.
The gloss of the paint has nothing to do with the sound quality of the room!

Thanks to all. Echo rumor de-bunked.
For the interior decorators here, I am 80's. I chose the Semi-Gloss for the cleaning. I work construction, and wrench on cars and dirt bikes often. I have discovered that no matter how careful I am I leave grease, dirt, and sweat smudges everywhere.
It never effects my cocktail parties.

The higher quality paints always wash better than their cheaper counterpart. Personally I'd have went with a satin or eggshell finish but as long as you aren't looking to sell - whatever works for you is fine! There won't be any fashion/decorator police knocking down your door

I think I might re-think my common areas and go with a different sheen. It is tough getting my fiance to spend the extra money on the higher quality brands.
Thanks to all.

Dont even consider one of the krappy brands sold at big box store.
