Lacquer not drying

Hi there, I'm new here, hope I post this right. I purchased a small box from Michaels which I sealed with shellac and then painted over with several coats of rustoleum fast drying white gloss lacquer. I don't live in a hugely humid climate but the paint is not drying very well, probably because I sprayed it on a bit too thick to get the smooth texture I was after. I handled it after a week and a few small indentations got into the paint as well, proving further that the paint just isn't settling. I'd like to ask advice on what I can do to help it dry, and what can I do to get those small indentations out (obviously before it dries). I tried putting it in the bathroom with the shower running in the hopes that the steam would get the paint to smooth out a little, but it didn't work.

if you didn't stir the goop up off the bottom of the can and mix it well, that's why its not drying. or there is a reaction with the shellac. only dewaxed shellac should be used as a sealer for lacquer. Or you put way to heavy of a coat on. You don't apply finishes thicker than what is recommended. It affects the way the finish dries. If it doesn't dry, you should chemically strip it and start over.
