a bad odor
I have a rowhouse that was left a mess by the previous tenants and it has a pungent odor from their 'pigliness.'
Cleaning it has not helped.
I was told that it needs to be painted with Kilnz, then a drywall sealer and then the paint.
It seems to me that the second step is unnecessary.
It has hardwood floors.
Any thoughts?
Thank you!
Chuck

Solvent based coatings do a lot better job of sealing odors than latex with pigmented shellac like BIN being the ultimate odor sealer. There is no need for any sealer/primer between the BIN or oil base Kilz and the finish paint.
Hopefully cleaning along with painting the walls/trim will be enough and the odor hasn't seeped into the cracks between the hardwood boards.
