Order of Operations > Painting or Stripping First?

I am about to start a home restoration project, where I'll be strpping paint from interior window frames, sills and room entries from a 120 yr old home.

I'll also paint all the rooms in question.

Do I strip first, then paint or paint then strip? I have heard varying opinions without substance (they have been offered by painters and strippers who recommend their service first).

Thanks very much in advance for your contributions.

This is a no brainer. Why would you paint then strip? Yes of course you would strip first!

Strip the woodwork.
Prep the walls.
Paint the woodwork
Paint the walls.

The only reason I paint the woodwork first is that I find it is easier to cut in to the woodwork when painting.
If you find it easier the other way then reverse the last two.

Stripping is very messy job. Why risk messing up a paint job?

Thanks much for your thoughtful replies. The windows, sills, frames, Entries are all mahogany and wanted to expose them. The cove and base are a mixture of wood species, they can stay painted.

You'll want to use a chemical stripper [maybe multiple times] and then sand once you've exposed the mahogany.
