Mold resistant paint

I have a garden window over and behind the kitchen sink. It is no problem in the summer but in the winter the humidity from the sink hot water and the plants creates a mold problem. The window is vinyl over some kind of wood. I'm thinking of painting it with a mold resistant primer and then painting with a gloss paint. Any recommendations for what primer to use?

If it's vinyl I would periodically clean the area. The mold is likely living on dirt & oils on the surface and would probably reoccur even if painted. You can use a mildew killing product but vinegar, pine oil and chlorine bleach are known to work.

Wife is cleaning it at least once a week which requires removal of all the stuff in the window. She is not happy. If wife is not happy guess who else is not happy.

Are you saying that a mold resistant primer is a waste of time? My other option is to remove the vinyl cladding and add tile or something else less susceptible.

I would definetely go with mold resistant paint. You can also buy the anti-mold ingredient separately and add it to the paint of your choice. This is a good option if you already have part of a can the right color lying around.

You'd need a latex paint to successfully paint over clean vinyl but no paint applied over vinyl will hold up as long or be as scrubable as the unpainted vinyl. Any way to increase ventilation in that area?

Remove the stuff off the window sill.

Air circulation so that it dries out quickly will reduce any mold growth.
Also mix up a small bottle of bleach and water and use that to clean off the mold and give it a spray once in a while.

An update - I think I solved the problem by putting a DampRid moisture absorber in the window. It's been a month now and the mold hasn't returned. We were having to clean the window weekly.
