Exclamation painting over wallpaper glue

I'll skip the boring details other than wallpaper was hung directly over unprimed drywall. You probably know the question. The glue can't be washed off due to it being on bare drywall. Would you recommend gards by sinsser (I have to use the "s" because the correct letter doesnt work on my keyboard lol) or an oil based primer. Yes, I know all of the patching, sanding steps etc but since this is project I would typically turn down, I dont know for sure what products I should use. Gard(s) or oil based primer. I've heard one or the other equally but never in comparison why one INSTEAD of the other. ok, then after a few coats of that and sanding, would it then be safe to use a latex paint or should I stick with an oil based?

We always used an oil base primer before the advent of Gardz. Either one will work well. About the only thing that makes Gardz better is it doesn't smell as bad and cleans up with water.
