Paint Metal Cover

I had an AC upgrade and the had to run a new copper line. The line comes down from the attic through the soffit vent outside the home. They covered the line with a metal cover. Its a long rectangular cover and is a somewhat shiny metal color.

They said that I could paint it to match the gutters or even match the stucco of the home.

Do I need to prime this metal with a Rust Prevention Primer (like Rustoleum) first? Or would I be OK to simply paint it with 2 coats of paint? Or should I look for some type of Paint + Primer product to paint this metal?

Paint and primer is a marketing gimmick to sell paint, if you want it to last a good coat of primer is always the best option.

Is the cover galvanized? or aluminum?
Ideally galvanized would weather some prior to painting. As long as it's clean and rust free you can get by without priming ..... but primer is never a bad idea.
