Gas fireplace build

I am wanting to build a gas fireplace on a wall without one. A chimney or other vent system is not an option as far as I can tell unless it can be vented under the house so will need a ventless. Ventless applies to the log type and not the fire box right?
I would like material , video, design suggestions.
Design specs:
Floor to ceiling design. Roof is slopped
raised hearth, maybe synthetic rock? Suggestions?
Mantle.
framing around and flush with the TV,
shelves for the cable, video game and sound bar

You can vent NOTHING down, so out the back is about the only option you have if you want it to not protrude out the wall. Consult with a fireplace professional as to the design and acceptability of the external venting as there are hot surfaces to contend with.

Basically you have to decide if you want a direct back venting as mentioned, exterior chase, or interior chase. While unvented logs give off more direct heat, they are not accepted by all jurisdictions.

I would not want a heat source directly under the TV.

 

Normally you wouldn't put a heat source, like a fireplace, below a TV but as long as there is a mantel..... there are formulas/charts the illustrate how the heat follows the mantle into the room and misses the TV.

 

Thanks for the responses. I think I need to clarify what I meant by flush. I want to build the fireplace the depth of a standard fire box. For flush I meant the TV. So I would. Essentially build a recession and use molding to frame the TV making it look flush with the wall above the mantle. Hopefully that makes more sense.

At my old house we had a ventless gas fireplace that had no vent to the outside. I should be able to do the same thing here I would think. It's the log style that determines vented or ventless not the firebox insert correct?

 

Yes, you can install ventless if your authority allows it, without a flue.

 

Thus is what I'm looking for I would like it on a raised hearth not level with the floor. I would continue the width of the wall all the way up with the reccess deep enough for the TV, Mount and wires. Then I would use molding to create the frame.

Is this vented or ventless?

 

Memory serves me it is vented directly to the outside back. Yes you can build something like this and have a hearth, continuing the framing to the ceiling to box in your tv and periphery, installing molding as you wish.

 

Keep one thing in mind.... those TV's do create heat that needs to be removed via gravity.
If you box it in tight... it cannot cool off.

Definitely agree. The void behind the TV will be the depth of the new wall.

I won't close the molding in room tight.

You'll not only have to close it off, but seal it as well, since the gasses won't have any place to go. You will have gasses (not noxious) emitted from ventless gas fireplaces, so you don't want them accumulating in the cavity.
