How much of a 23 gauge nail pinner is needed

I think I may get a pinner for delicate baseboard outside bullnose corners. It will rarely be used, if ever again after this one somewhat large job in my home. A grex is overkill, but am wondering if I can get away with a $30 pinner such as from Harbor Freight or the NuMax at HD.

Is there a type of pin to avoid? I am thinking it has to take a pretty short pin, but how short?

Any gun will work for occasional use. Nail length depends what size stuff you are nailing, and whether you're toenailing or end nailing. Hopefully the gun you get will shoot up to a 1" nail. That will be good for toenailing. I use a 23 ga. gun to tack returns on and depending on the thickness of the material I might use 3/4 or 1/2" long pins. About all they do is hold your pieces together until the wood glue sets up.

Thanks. The ones I am considering shoot .5 to 1 inch pins.

I picked up the $30 pinner and it makes glue ups so much easier. Now I feel ready to bite the bullet and ordered wood for the first floor.

Sounds good!

One bit of advice... as you load nails carefully watch that you put them in the right direction. They usually have an arrow on them that denotes the direction they will be driven, but when you get broken pieces it's easy to put them in the wrong way. That will really jam up your gun if you try to drive a nail that's upside down.

Yep. Arrows painted on side of pins point forward. Thanks for all the help.
