Wheel weight adhesive removal from rim
I had a new set of tires mounted recently and of course the technician did not remove the adhesive left by the old weights. The design of my wheels is such that it is very noticeable and I want to remove it. I've used brake cleaner and a plastic scraper in the past. Is it safe to use this type of solvent on a wheel or should I buy a product specifically for adhesive removal?

I agree. I've used WD40 to clean some aluminum motorcycle parts and it works very well. However, it leaves behind an oily residue. Maybe I'll remove the adhesive with WD40 then follow it up with brake cleaner.

I use ether starting fluid as a universal adhesive solvent. You must remember that it is EXTREMELY FLAMMABLE and the vapors can literally knock you out. It may also remove some paints although I have not experienced that problem.

The WD-40 may soften and dissolve the glue.
Another choices is lacquer thinner. If the weights were glued onto an aluminum rim..... the residue will need to be power buffed off. No amount of any cleaner will remove it completely as the aluminum is too porous.
