Hose Clamp For Cable Splice

Hose Clamp For Cable Splice
Yes, I mean use a worm gear hose clamp for an electrical splice. I have two #4 battery cables I'd like to splice to a #0. When I look at the usual connectors for that I get sticker shock. (No pun intended). I have no crimping tool for that size ring connector so crimping on ring connectors and bolting together really isn't an option nor is soldering because for the cost of tools I might as well buy a split bolt. What I wanted to do was take the two getting-almost-to-short-from-trimming #4 cables that are part of a harness I don't want to try the replace and extend the two cables about a foot toward the battery using a single #0 cable. I was wondering if a worm gear hose clamp would work. It would mainly be pressing the wires together not carrying that much of the current. Is my idea nuts? Anybody done that?

Stay with crimp terminals. Pick up one of these bad boys. A hammer crimper. I used several for over 20 years. Probably get one at Harbor. They run $10-15.

So looking at the price of the hammer crimper (Harbor Freight, Ebay, Amazon) and cost of lugs I'm wondering what size split bolt connector for one #0 and two #4. I'm thinking a split bolt connector may be cheaper.

Coming from left field, but would a PEX 1/2" crimp ring work? Not sure how big the bundle you have is. They also have 3/8" rings, but that's another tool.

I'd be thinking a split bolt connector. Sorry, missed where you mentioned that earlier. Can't rattle sizes off, but measure the largest cable and match it up at the hardware store or big box.
