Replacing a battery terminal end?

95 Tercel. I want to replace a battery terminal end but as you can see in the picture one wire is much shorter than the other. The method I am familiar with requires the two wires to be twisted together and inserted in the new end but with that short wire I can't do this. Any ideas on how to approach this?
Thanks for any replies!

With that kind of setup.... the cable gets replaced when the end goes bad.
The long wire feeds the cars accessories.
The short heavy wire is the starter cable. Probably fairly short.
Shouldn't be too hard to replace.

Your problem is probably that you are trying to use some universal battery terminal instead of getting the right part. The Toyota battery cable (your short wire) on that model is bent at a 90 and goes over that threaded post, as does the other cable (your long wire). We don't know why you are replacing the terminal but IMO I imagine you would have better luck if you used OEM parts so that it goes back together exactly the same way it is now.

Try ebay if you think the parts stores or the dealerships charge too much.
