replace UV boot or get remanufactured axle?

I believe there are two ways to fix a torn UV boot:
(1) take it apart and replace the boot(s)
(2) trade it in for a remanufactured axle with new boots

What are the pros and cons of the two approaches?

installing a remanufactured axle in most cases is probably going to cost less if your having a shop do the work labor to r and r the axle, where with replacing the boots you still have r and r axle plus have additional labor to take apart the cv joints, clean them and inspect them for wear install new boots and grease witch in many cases would end up costing more for the repair with most shop labor rates.

We quit replacing boots about 20 years ago. Axle are rebuild already and a lot easier to work with. I moved from Phoenix to Raleigh and they were wondering why I had taken a axle apart, They had been using rebiuld axle for about 5 years than.

In some cases the entire rebuilt shaft is more money but once you've worked with the CV boots and the ties that hold them in place..... you'll opt for the rebuilt shaft.
