How to seal a drywall hole in a cupboard?

See picture; I'm trying to seal this hole so no rodents get in. Is the wire an issue? I think its for the hood vent. What is the best way to go about this? Thanks!

Stuff with steel wool before caulking. It may slow down the rodents.

I suppose filling it with spray cheese would be a bad idea.
