Repairing Drywall for Backsplash Install

Hi, I've taken off my old backsplash and now need to prepare for installing the new backsplash. I've taken photos of the areas with the worst damage. Looking for advice on what best method is for repair, keeping in mind that it's going to be covered with a new backsplash. Also, the kitchen counter is a new install and I want to take care not to damage it. Thanks in advance for advice. Pictures are from top to bottom, left to right.

Welcome to the forums!

Will this be a tile back splash? if something else - how tall?
I'd probably use a setting compound like Durabond to fill in the low spots.

Thanks for the quick response. It probably won't be tile, and it will probably be 5-6 inches and should cover the old area.

Usually when installing a new splash, nothing is done. The new splash will cover the old scar line and that's all you need.
For tile, I would fix the wall. For a solid splash, all you need is some gluing area and you have plenty of that.
Almost all my customers understand this. No sense in fixing the wall when it's just going to be covered up.
