advice on drywall patch repair (crack on back side)

OK so there was a very small area (2" diameter) of drywall that had a hole which seem to go right through to the other side. But as I was trying to cut out I could not find a uniform and smooth perimeter and the cut out got bigger. Then just by coincidence I decided to put my hand into the cut out section and noticed that there is a tear on the back side of the drywall which is more of a long and curved crack which is quite significant and wraps around the cut out section where my hand was through and checking the back side. When pressure is applied on the outside to this area the crack on the back side flexes that is it widens. So my question is simple should I cut out the drywall until the back side crack removed entirely ? This curved crack does not go through the drywall onto the outside and is not visible from the outside only can be felt from the back side inside of the drywall where the studs are located.

One more quick question I've attached a picture of the cut out where behind has the curved crack and an already existing repair just finished taping. Should I just cut one big cut out which includes the open cut section as seen in the photo and the newly taped repair on the left ?

I would cut out the bad drywall from stud to stud.Either cut it 1/2 out on the stud or add a nailer to the studs Put a new piece of drywall and refinish it. Use tape and JC.

What size does the damaged drywall entail? It may not be necessary to cut it out stud to stud but all the damaged drywall should be removed. You can screw lumber to the backside of the remaining drywall to span the gap.

I took some photos of the interior damage to the drywall but seen only from the outside. The small holes you see outlines the damaged area on the back side. The pencils on both sides represent where the studs are located. Keep in mind that the pencil on the left where that stud is has a telephone cable attached to its interior side towards the right stud and if the drywall has to be cut stud to stud I will need to nail another 2" x 4" stud on the outside of the left stud.

With no reference to size of area can't tell if more than one or two stud bays. How far is it between pencils.
