Patching drywall edge at fiberglass shower
Drywall edge at fiberglass shower unit was not caulked in house built 2 yrs ago.
Paper facing now lifted and plaster board crumbling 2-3" up from the shower. I would plan to remove (cut out) the affected wallboard and fill in the defect with what type of plaster / mud , and then caulk and seal with paint?

If you cut out the drywall you'll need to install a patch piece of drywall. If it's just the paper lifting, I'd cut out the loose paper and skim a setting compound like Durabond over the affected area. If you use regular joint compound you'll need to prime the bare gypsum with Zinnser's Gardz or an oil base primer first. Once the repair is smooth and sanded, texture if needed, prime, caulk to the tub/shower and paint.

Yes, use a setting compound like durabond because it's water resistant. They probably used plain joint compound.

marksr Thanks for the welcome to the forums. I will cut out and replace some of the wallboard edges (2-3") and use Durabond (new to me), followed by prime, caulk , and paint.
