Dodge Ram Key Fob
I have a 2012 Dodge Ram that has 32000 miles on it. It came with two key Fobs. One works fine, but the other will not start the truck remotely, but all other functions work when the buttons are pressed. I changed the battery in the bad one, but it made no difference. I can get the Fob apart, but not sure if the contact is repairable, or how to do it. I have instructions for re programming the Fob, but sure don't want to lose the other functions too. Advice?

If any of the buttons are working on the problem fob...... then it's most likely not a programming issue. I'd suspect a defective button.

Well Pete, you aleady have 20 stars on a 10 star scale for helping me fix my welder (see Century 200 Welder repair post) How would you go about fixing or replacing the contact?

Is that a factory remote start fob ?
It can be hard to tell as they look alike.
Post the part # and the FCC id from the back.

No Numbers on the back (unless they are inside the cover?) Yes it is the original Dodge Ram FOB

If I open up the case, I find a CR2032 formed into the case to the right of the battery with the fob part that inserts into the dash Ignition to the right also.

CR2032 is just a battery type. Really odd it doesn't have a label somewhere with other info on it. Did you check both fobs?

There are several aftermarket start kits for that vehicle. They're just plug and play. Usually the vehicle doesn't come with factory remote start and the kit is added later or at the dealer. The look alike... but not Dodge ones may not have ID numbers on the remote.
I'm guessing you bought the vehicle used and it came with the remote start.
Do your remotes look identical to the picture I posted ?
I looked that board up and although it links to Dodge it doesn't link to a remote start fob.

Hi Pete,
I bought the truck new from dealer, (bucket list truck, put everything on it that I wanted that wasn't already there lol) but the remote start WAS already there. If I have to buy a new fob from Dodge, won't kill me, but seems like it should be repairable....

The Fobs both have a Silver RAM Logo inset into the back of them. Would the aftermarket ones be able to use this logo?
#13
Sure they would...you can buy all sorts of RAM emblazoned gear. Hitch covers, pillows, hats, seat covers, etc. Doubt they care one whit.

Dodge Ram Key Fob
I have some good news that I just lucked into after calling a friend who discovered a locksmith who has a booming local business repairing Key Fobs along with making keys and other normal locksmithing stuff. He had a whole bag of the internal buttons that are inside the fobs, along with a portable receiver for testing the fob without the truck or car actually being there. He replaced the button in the fob that controls the remote start for me for 20 bucks. He told me that some smart guy has made imself a millionaire by being a source for locksmiths for these buttons. Great for him, good for me, and anyone who has the same problem in our forums of friends!

When I had my mobile electronics store I had a whole box of defective remotes that I pillaged for parts.
Just to add to this thread as I've been dealing with the Ram Fobiks too. The FCC ID is not stamped on the outside of the remote. There are no numbers on the outside of those remote fobs.
