How Do you Restore Nerf Bars Back To Glory?
Before installing these bars on new to me 99 4x4 Ranger I would like to restore them to some of their erstwhile glory in the same black.
Has anyone done this? How and what products did you use, how are the results holding?

They look like they are plastic covered. There are many products intended to make plastic look like new. Whatever you choose make sure it doesn't contain silicone which will make them slippery. But I have not seen anything permenant. Just like tire treatments you may have to reapply regularly.

They are steel tubes, step area is plastic. Someone suggested they used a rustoleum bedliner. I have seen utuber use krylon fusion for plastic spray paint. He took it to both the metal and plastic. It looked good I would say.

The parts stores and automotive depts sell a 'wax' or maybe it's a cleaner for the plastic parts. It will turn it back to black and give it a little sheen. As PD stated it is something that has to be reapplied every month or two.

First thing I thought of was to recoat them with a bedliner spray... if you don't mind the texture.

I would be very cautious about anything applied on top of plastic like paint or bedliner, but paint especially. It might be a trick if you want to flip the truck for a quick sale but stepping on a painted surface isn't going to hold up.

I think bedliner spray is worth consideration, but would be apprehensive of it from an adhesion standpoint as well as what the chemical reaction may do to the existing material. So, if the rubber is held on with Christmas trees or other such fastener that can be readily removed I might remove the pads, clean and sand the metal, and use the spray. Otherwise, frankly I would probably go to the auto parts store and see what I could find in the Armor All, Meguiar, or other lines to freshen them up as much as possible.
