Thickness on Emerg. Brake Shoe Thickness

I am trying to find out when you should replace the E brake shoes on my truck. I have about an 1/8" thk left on both sides and I hardly ever use them. I am doing the rotors and pads. So I was thinking of doing the shoes also but I dont feel I will wear them out?
It would be nice to know what the spec call for, I dont believe my books indicate any.

Since there's no location in your profile it's anyone's guess what's allowed in your area.
In VA it's 2/32, not sure why they write it that way, it should be 1/16th.

If you were paying someone to do the rotors. I am sure you would choose to have the e-brake shoes replaced as labor has to be the biggest part of the bill. If it was me, I would replace the shoes.

Honestly I dont think you ever need to change them.

First off they are parking brake, they engage when the vehicle is stopped so technically there is no wear on the pads/shoes.

Second, as someone noted, they dont get a lot of use, so if there is any pad left, and they dont have much to start with your good!

I might add that it is true that they will not wear out when used properly but a bad cable or not being fully released could destroy them in one trip.

In all the years I worked as a brake mechanic I can't remember ever changing parking brake shoes.

Thanks Guy! You all confirmed my thoughts! Only remember changing one pair in my life at least on cars! That pair of shoes were used improperly and destroyed.
Cheers for input!
