Wink plumbing - copper pipe soldering

I have to replace a copper fitting from a male fitting to a female fitting on a 1 inch line. The main water isolation valve is 3 inches away. Is it possible to get the fitting hot enough to pull off and replace it with a new fitting?

Picture would be nice.
Why not just use a brass pipe coupling?

It should be possible. Use MAPP gas instated of propane. You might want to wrap a wet rag around the valve to keep it cool and not get loose from the heat.
