How to connect water line for humidifier

I'm installing a humidifier. It came with a saddle valve but I don't have cooper pipes in my home.

I have a small port right after my main shut off. It's about 1/8 inch with a twist off cap. The copper line that came with my humidifier install kit is too large for this but can I get an adapter and use this small port?
Thanks in advance!

I would install a valve this way:

- Cut the pipe at a good location for the valve
- Install a sharkbite tee
- From the tee you have the option to install the valve there or run pipe off the tee

No you can not and should not connect the line to that boiler drain.
If it's not copper what is it?

Anyone? Can I use that little nub to connect my humidifier? If not can I connect the saddle valve to that little bit of cooper there before it turns into pex?

No. That is why every one is telling you the correct way to do it. (Only boiler drain I have dealt with wasn't even pipe thread.)

Saddle valves are not recommended because they clog easily.

That little nub (cap) on the valve is a drain port for draining the water out of the line when servicing it. That needs to stay removable.

I know in many states the use of a saddle valve is now against code. They are an easy and unreliable way to connect a humidifier to a supply line.

This kit features sharkbite fittings which don't require any soldering to copper.

Since you're working with PEX there you need only make a single cut, deburr the pipe and install the kit.

great minds think alike two responses for the price of one.
