Sprinkler in-ground system troubleshooting .

Moved in to a foreclosed home in Tampa . House was vacant for 8 years ,mostly cosmetic work needed . Sprinkler system not working , need transformer and broken back flow valve . Water flowing to pipes , and controller seems to work , timing and advancing the stations .Valves under lawn caps are totally full or dirt , how do i trouble shoot them , did run a electrical snake in first part of line and it seemed clear ..

Start by removing all the emitters and turn on each zone flush out the pipes even if you have to manually actuate the valves. Then once the lines are clear reinstall the emitters to keep dirt and debris from getting into the open ends. While your at it make sure the screen under each emitter is clean.

Then at the controller activate each zone and see which ones work and which don't. If you have zones the don't work you need to figure out if it's the controller, the wiring between the controller and valves or if it's a valve/solenoid problem.
