Identify and locate a valve stem for a bathroom faucet

I have included 4 pictures of a faucet and valve stem.
I have been trying to identify this faucet or the valve stem which needs replacing (there are no markings or brand names anywhere).
The faucet is 25 years old but I do not want to replace it because it is gold plated (not brass) and matches with another sink faucet and a bath tub faucet.

The height of the valve stem is 6 cm (or 2 and 5/16 inches). There are 16 splines on the top of the valve stem. From the top of the spline to the body of the valve stem is 2 cm (or 3/4").
A large local plumbing contractor requested that his faucet rep try and locate a valve stem with no luck.
Does anyone recognize this faucet or know where a valve stem can be located?

I tried doing a generic search but there many that look alike.

Here.... Home Depot and Lowes.... have many replacement cartridges hanging on the shelves.
I check there first.

Do you have any home improvement centers near by you can check at ?

FaucetPartsPlus says you can email them a picture (put a ruler next to it) and they will help you identify.

I have checked everywhere for this cartridge without any luck.
I think it must be a rare beast.
