I need to know what you call it...

I need a two inch female (screw) connector which connects a 1 1/2" piece of PVC water tight. The female connector - when not attached would slide up and down the PVC tube. My current connector was over tightened and has cracked.

This piece connects the incoming (from the pool) PVC line to the multiport valve. Can you tell me what you call that female connector ? (Home depot does not have it).

Thanks

I think you are looking for a female compression adapter. That would have a compression fitting that clamps tight to the pipe, and a threaded socket to screw onto the valve. If you need male threads to screw into the valve, that would be a male compression adapter.

Those would be for rigid PVC pipe.

Here are some photos - hope they make the trip ok... It is only the male screw-down piece which is cracked - 2". I'm going to guess that the threads have the chance to differ as well ?

I've never seen or used compression fittings in pool work. All the fittings are glued.

You'll need to change the entire fitting.
The compression nut threads rarely match different manufacturers fittings.

Fortunately - the manufacturer is still around (although they are in Canada and I'm in Mexico) - so I may get the correct compression coupling (can I call it that ?)

So yesterday we changed out the sand and replaced the Jacuzzi multiport valve with one from Carvin (apparently they are virtually the same company because absolutely everything on the two valves is identical except the name and the color of the label).

Next question : We have a 1 HP motor on the pump - the pressure gauge reads 16. What should that gauge read - and might I need a larger motor ? The motor is probably close to 20 years old.

Thanks

The HP of the motor needed is based on the amount of gallons of pool water.
A 1HP pump is a pretty good sized pump.

Unfortunately the pressure gauge is an arbitrary reading. It changes based on filter condition.

Mines runs roughly 14psi and when I see it go up a pound or two I know the filter needs to be backwashed. I have a 1HP Hayward superpump for a pool sized 20x40 and approx 21,000 gallons.

A lot of the online pool supply places tend to sell some of the less common fittings used for pool plumbing. You may want to search for pool plumbing fittings as see if you find what you need or a substitute that will work. Of course, getting it from the manufacturer may be the best way to be sure you get the right part.
