Question Sewer line placement

Are sewer lines between houses ever placed side by side about 2 to 3 feet apart? I ask this because our neighbors house sits about 5 feet higher than ours. They have had their sewer line fixed due to tree roots damaging the pipe. I still think that they have leakage because the slope between our houses always seems to be damp after they use their washing machine and take showers. So I am thinking that their sewer line runs right next to ours. Any comments?

Yes it is possible but it's more likely that it's simply ground water emerging since you are at a lower elevation.

Thanks. I forgot to even consider that. We have many underground springs in our area.

How did they fix the pipe? Did they just snake it out? Or was it dug up and replaced?
